| WELCOME TO THE ABSA
RHODES HOCKEY CLUB 2009! |
|
The ABSA Rhodes Hockey
Club is the largest sports club at Rhodes
University, boasting an impressive 300 members.
The hockey club prides itself on being one of
the most unique and fun clubs that Rhodes has to
offer. We have a dedicated committee consisting
of 18 members - a lot I know! But without these
people, the club would fall to pieces.
The club enters eight teams into the EP Hockey
League annually - four ladies teams and four
men's teams. These teams have produced some
excellent results in the previous seasons of the
league and we hope to establish some great
results this season. The club has also, for the
first time this year, initiated an internal
social league that will see eight mixed teams
made up from club members participating. We are
looking forward to, yet again, another
fun-filled, eventful and exciting year.
Once you're part of our club, you're a member
for life! For more information about our
facilities, league etc. please contact Taryn
Murray (Chairperson) at

| DEVELOPMENT
PROGRAM: |
|
| The ASBA Rhodes Hockey Club
prides itself on having an excellent on-campus
development program that was first started in
2006. The development program has grown to
include three local Grahamstown schools (about
80 children). The club has also been heavily
involved in some off-campus development
initiatives in the past years. These include the
cleaning up of two old tennis courts for the
local children in the area, the Galela Amanzi
Water Project, fundraising and getting a small
internal running for some of the children from
the local schools. For more information
regarding any development initiatives, please
contact our development officer. His name is

| SOCIAL LEAGUE: |
|
| The ASBA Rhodes Hockey Club
has recently developed a fantastic social league
with as many as eight teams taking part! These
matches usually take place on a Friday evening
with some mid-week matches also taking place.
The hockey club can offer both full field social
hockey as well as “indoor hockey” – a newly
established facility, with construction being
completed in 2011! So if competitive league
hockey is not for you, please feel free to come
along and join in the fun (with a little
seriousness involved). For more information
please contact either of our social
representatives: Alan Herbert
